Canadian Sales & Distribution "Ontario Steel Mill Customer"

Wire Rope Industries and our Northern Ontario distributor, Sling Choker Mfg. (Sault) Ltd., recently undertook a mandate given to us by a Steel mill to assist them in maximizing its hoisting applications as well as to improve its overall operating efficiencies.

In order to ensure that the ideal rope is being used in each application, we first of all needed to fully understand, on a crane-by-crane basis, the specific working environment that the ropes were subjected to. At the same time, we recognized that any reduction in lost production due to rope change-out downtime would be critical to the success of our original mandate. Clearly, then, our challenge was to identify the areas where operating costs would be reduced through the use of longer lasting, outperforming crane ropes.

A crane survey was conducted, and our Dy-Pac 6 or Cushion-Pac 8 ropes are now in service on all production cranes at that mill. A data base will be maintained and rope life will be benchmarked, graphed and presented to the "improvement team" which has been created as a result of this process. "Continuous improvement" will be the theme of this program and, as such, technical seminars on the subject of wire rope will be included as part of the regular agenda.

Wire Rope Industries and Sling Choker Mfg. (Sault) Ltd. have a long history with this customer, and we look forward to continued mutual success through the use of our "Ropes that Outperform".
